Natural enamel caries lesions in polarized light microscopy: new paper
Recent paper (Medeiros et al., J Microscopy, 2012; doi:10.1111/j.1365-2818.2012.03609.x) reports new evidences:
- Enamel caries lesion area measurement using PLM in a single immersion mediun underestimates lesion size by many times compared to analysis using various immersion media;
- % Mineral loss according to Darling (Br Dent J, 1956) does not agree with quantitative micro-radiographic data;
- Translucent zone located far away from the front of the enamel caries lesion;
- Spatially-resolved data on the increased organic matter volume in natural enamel caries.
